Pharmaceutical Industry: Automatic Data Collection Case Study #01

For your viewing pleasure:

the premiere of Coreflux Use Cases (almost as thrilling as the X-Files, or Law & Order).

Today, we kick off with Case Study no.1:

A Pharmaceutical Industry client that automated its factory’s data collection in order to calculate and improve their Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE).

Spoiler alert: not only did they improve their production, they even got a nice bonus in the process.

The Challenge:

Real-time data acquisition to calculate the true Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE).

This aims to capture downtime and micro-stops events from production equipment, facilitating the implementation of efficient preventive maintenance.

Problem:

Production and maintenance data collection was performed on paper, by the supervisor at the end of each shift.

Time loss: 1 hour per area.

Production data was only recorded at the end of each production shift.

Delay: 8 hours.

Manual collection by operators often missed detection of micro-stops in production.

The Coreflux Pipeline:

Key Components:

MQTT Edge Broker integrated into each equipment controller, with Bridge asset integration.

Central MQTT Broker integrated into IT infrastructure.

Flux Assets in OT:

  • Siemens S7 Asset
  • Modbus TCP/IP Asset
  • Ethernet/IP Asset

Flux Assets in IT:

  • MSSQL Asset
  • NoSQL Asset
  • MQTT Bridge Asset

Roles:

  • Plant Managers
  • Equipment and maintenance managers

Target Group:

  • Operators

Benefits & Value:

  • Shorter potential downtime;
  • Longer equipment lifespan;
  • Minimal systematic errors;
  • Less time and effort needed for identifying and resolving issues.
  • Bonus: it simplifies stock management processes.

Coreflux is on a mission to #democratizeIIoT and empower each human being to extract the maximum potential from the technology they use in their industry.
